Feels like the first day at school except no pencils sharpened and no need for the name tag on my lunch. Starting this blog because I joined a cooking site called The Daring Kitchen. Looking forward to my first "assignment" tomorrow. My love of food bought me there and thought it would help expand my menus. Was a tough choice to make baking or cooking, but went with my first love baking. Although I cook daily. I'm just a foodie in general. My love of food started with my Nana and Popa both foodies before the term was used. Popa grew lots of things and made cheeses and preserved the harvest from his garden. Pickled green tomatoes, fruit in brandy on the counter, homemade wines the list goes on and on. He started in this country in the fruit and vegetable business and that's where the interest and really the enjoyment of food started. Nana was the baker and cook, she worked as a butcher in grocery store for years. Everyone had one special dessert she'd make for birthdays, mine was classic cream puffs. My Nana loved the kitchen, and kitchen gadgets, cookbooks and I miss her everyday. We'd speak for hours about food and cooking and still I have unanswered questions about her recipes. She was a recipe follower when it came to baking and a natural intuitive cook with meals. She thought me daring for always trying to tweak things. I can't even name the hundreds of things she'd bake but everything was delicious and made with love.
Being days away from summer not sure how much baking I do (except for birthdays and parties) but will brave the heat of the ovens for the cause. Guessing this blog will contain my two loves food and gardening will be a combo with added rants and raves when needed. Well first day is over and I'm the bus home. Looking forward to meeting other foodies.
